A senior lung specialist in Lahore has highlighted the urge for increased care for young children and the elderly in the ongoing cold and foggy weather.
Dr Ashraf Jamal, Head of the Pulmonology Department at Allama Iqbal Medical College, alerted of elevated air pollution resulting from the mixture of smog and fog during severe cold weather.
He emphasized a rise in cases of fever, chest infection, and pneumonia, specifically among the elderly and children.
He highlighted the susceptibility of these groups to adverse cold weather effects and recommended special precautions such as the use of warm clothes and the usage of hot drinks.

He also suggested motorcycle riders wear face masks and helmets to protect themselves from cold weather, wind, and pollution due to the fog.
Dr Ashraf Jamal also discouraged outdoor activities including jogging in parks, open grounds, physical exercises, and walks during severe fog and cold weather.
To reduce the risks, he advised that patients with high blood pressure and heart diseases should consume warm drinks, use lukewarm water, and include nuts in their diet. He emphasized the significance of wearing warm clothes, mufflers, and socks to prevent cold weather.
