Have you heard of the many Hijama benefits? Hijama also called cupping therapy, is an ancient treatment method for many illnesses. It is practised even today to remove toxins from the body. From athletes to celebrities, many use this method for its excellent benefits.
The History Of Hijama
The origins of Hijama date back to 1550 BC. It was initially used in ancient Egypt, China, Korea, Latin America and Tibet hundreds of years ago. Many different techniques have been devised for its use over the years, depending on the geographical location. In some areas, leeches were used to suck out the blood as a method of Hijama. Other people used either horns of animals, ceramic cups, bamboo, glass, or even plastic. But now, as we have progressed, silicone and glass Hijama cups are widely used.
Hijama Techniques
During the Hijama procedure, a cup is placed on the skin and then heated or suctioned onto the skin. The cup is frequently heated with fire by putting alcohol, herbs, or paper directly into the cup. The fire source is turned off, and the heated cup is placed on your skin with the open side facing you.
There are two types of Hijama procedures; wet and dry. In dry cupping, the skin is pulled into the vacuum cup without any cuts on the skin. In wet cupping, the skin is lacerated and then sucked into the cup. This is done for three minutes. The skin becomes red and protrudes out.
Hijama In Islam
The origin of Islam goes back to the 7th century, founded by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He (PBUH) got Hijama treatment and recommended it to others to treat various health issues. It is found to be in the Sunnah. Although there are two types of cupping, wet and dry, only wet cupping is mentioned in the Sunnah.
According to a Sahabi, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Indeed there is a cure in it (in Hijama)” (Sahih Muslim 2205). This clearly states the importance of Hijama in Islam. According to another reference, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “There is a cure in three things; the slash of a cupper or drinking honey or cauterization with fire, and I forbid my nation from cauterization” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 5681).
In a reference made by a close friend of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), He (PBUH) was treated with Hijama while he was fasting (Sahih Al-Bukhari 5694). Not only did He use it to treat medical problems, but He advised Hijama benefits for overall health.
