Heatwave in Pakistan 2024
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday predicted a heatwave in Pakistan from May 21, 2024 – May 27, 2024. The department has said that it is expected that the temperature can rise 4-8 degrees Celsius above normal in Sindh, Punjab, and other parts of the country.

As per the PMD, a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere can lead to a heatwave in many parts of the country. The heatwave alert in Pakistan is given for especially Punjab and Sinfh from May 21, 2024.
The heat situation is expected to intensify from May 21, 2024- May 27, 2024, with temperatures likely to remain 6-8°C above normal temperature.

Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan the day temperature can rise to 4-6°C above the normal temperature from May 21, 2024 – May 27, 2024.
Dr Muhammad Afzaal, the director of Research and Development at the PMD in Islamabad, said that heatwave is the condition in which temperature rise 5°C above the normal limit for three or more days.
Apart from this, as the temperature has risen to 45°C, the forecast is that many parts of Punjab will face three heatwaves in 2024 over the next 4 weeks.
The MET office has already warned about the situation to the concerned departments and hopes that they will do what is necessary to deal with the extreme heat.
