Today the country lost a great doctor and a humble human being, Prof. Dr. Mehmood Aleem in an incident of target killing at Akbarabad Chowk, Jail Road, Faisalabad. He was the Head of the gynecology department at the Allied Hospital in the city and was known for his remarkable skills and efforts as a gynecologist and obstetrician.
As per the account of the witnesses, two armed men who were riding a motorcycle opened fire on the doctor, who is also a brother of the senior bar member Babar Zafar, as he was returning back from the National Hospital. The assailants managed to flee from the scene after shooting him countless times in the chest. He was rushed to the Allied Hospital where all the surgeons tried their best to save him but failed at the hands of the fate.
The incident brings to attention the lack of security provided to the doctors and how their lives are not safe here. The Young Doctor’s Association has gone on a strike and shut down the out-patient department (OPD) at various hospitals, to condemn the cold blooded murder of the senior doctor. They were later joined in the by Senior Doctors as well who voiced their concern for the prevailing security situation in the country too. Moreover, they demand that the culprits responsible for the murder be arrested immediately and in failing to do so the intensity of the protests might increase in the next 36 hours.
Marham strongly condemns the killing of the renowned doctor and a remarkable human being. The country has truly lost a gem today. We believe that some serious efforts need to be made to improve the level of the doctors and the para medical staff.
