Sense of hearing is one of the biggest blessings and even the slightest impairment can disrupt a persons’ everyday life.
There are a lot of reasons that can cause Problem in hearing of a person. Some of the common ones are mentioned below:
Inherited hearing loss
A person might face problem in hearing if it is transferred to him/her genetically from the parents. Usually hereditary hearing losses are present at birth but in some cases it can develop over time. They are usually permanent.
Age-related hearing trouble
It happens gradually with age. Person starts to feel difficulty in hearing high pitched tones such as the chirping of birds or phone ringing. Most of the time, it is a permanent loss and a person find it difficult to take part in conversations. They feel as if the person is mumbling instead of speaking clearly. It is a complete loss of hearing and can’t be treated. Its symptoms are noticed slowly so a person might not know before it gets too severe. Also, consult with the ENT to safe hearing.
Noise-induced
Noise pollution is a serious issue and it can cause hearing loss if the person is exposed to loud noises for long periods. There are a lot of reasons for this type of ear impairment such as noisy work environments, construction work, traffic etc. Even though it is not a permanent loss of hearing and it’s highly preventable. It is also a gradual process but can become permanent if noise exposure isn’t reduced.
One sided deafness
It is known as a unilateral hearing loss. This greatly affects persons’ ability to locate the source of sound. This issue can occur due to multiple reasons such as infection, genetic reasons, trauma to ear, excessive noise exposure etc. Hearing aid is useful in this case. Unilateral hearing loss should be evaluated by an otolaryngologist or other physician.
Tumors
At times tumors in the head can cause hearing impairment to happen. In a tumor-related loss of hearing person feels fullness in the ear and often complains ringing in the ear. Tumors can be treated surgically and may or may not cause loss of hearing.
