A doctor was shot dead by unidentified individuals at Khardar, Karachi on Friday, police reported.
Zulfiqar Ali was a specialized doctor in general medicine and he was practicing at his private clinic in Khardar.
Adeel Hussain Chandio, City Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), told Dawn that the nature of the crime cannot be stated yet.
“It is not yet determined whether it was personal enmity or a robbery attempt,” he said.
The police is still inquiring the matter of doctor’s killing as it has increased in Pakistan. But, they are still unsure about the incentive of the crime.
Eye witnesses said that Dr. Zulfiqar Ali was going to his home after locking his clinic, it is a street away from his home in Khadda Market, when he was followed and attacked by two men.
Doctor’s family took him to Civil Hospital, but they were not satisfied with the treatment there, so hewas later shifted to a private hospital at Bahadurabad.
One of the relatives stated that Ali died in the morning during the treatment.
The target killings of doctors is increasing gradually every day. In Lahore, Ashfaq Ahmed, 68, a veterinary doctor, was murdered on Friday at Sabzazaar. According to the report of SATP around 47 doctors were killed in the past 10 years. The security of the doctors is questionable.
